Notable players include 3-time European Champion Chris Walker, 5-time Isreali National Champion Ronen Goldberg, and PST #2 Mohamed El Sherbini of Egypt.

The sport of squash has seen dramatic growth in the United States in recent years and the addition of San Diego to the tour's calendar is an example of this growth. PST Commissioner Joe McManus is looking forward to the tournament. "We are pleased to be in San Diego for the first weekend of August. This is the first Pro Squash Tour tournament in San Diego. We look forward to putting on a great event."

Running alongside the professional event, amateur squash players will be competing in junior divisions and adult skill level tournaments.

The San Diego Squash Club is also the host of Access Squash Academy, a youth enrichment program serving underprivileged students from the San Diego area. The program is based on three major pillars: academic tutoring, squash instruction, and community service. PST will donate 50% of the net proceeds from this year's San Diego Open will be donated to support the mission of Access Youth Academy.

Renato Paiva, a former Brazilian Champion, oversees the San Diego Squash Club and Access Youth Academy. "We are pleased to have PST coming to San Diego. It is a great opportunity for our juniors see elite squash played here on their home courts," said Paiva.

Early registered players for the tournament include touring pros from Australia, Brazil, Egypt, Kenya, Wales, and the United States.
