Brown University #1 Adrian Leanza to Turn Pro

Providence, RI (February 19, 2011) — The Pro Squash Tour (PST) announced today that Brown University’s #1 ranked squash player Adrian Leanza has registered for the tour and will make his professional debut in the Providence Open to be hosted at Brown University this March.

“We are very pleased to welcome Adrian to the Pro Squash Tour,” said PST Commissioner Joe McManus. “I look forward to being on site when he makes his professional debut.”

Leanza has already registered for the Providence Open (March 13 – 16), the New England Open (April 9 -10) and the Albany Open (April 29 – May 1).

“I am looking forward to competing at the professional level,” said Leanza. My time at Brown has been fantastic. Coach le Gassick and Coach Wilkinson have been great mentors for me on and off the court. Also, former Director of US Junior Squash Development Vijay Chitnis was also a great mentor on and off the court as well.”

Earlier this season, the Pro Squash Tour announced it was increasing its efforts to sign top U.S. college players to the tour. Adrian is the #1 player on the nation’s #12 ranked squash team.

Originally from Denver, Adrian taught himself how to play squash at a young age. “There simply weren’t many young players in Denver where I grew up,” Leanza recounted. “But I immediately fell in love with the game and worked hard to improve.”
